Dreams, Drinks and Demons
They can be funny things dreams. Sometimes we enjoy wandering through them, escaping to unpredictable realities. Sometimes we hold ourselves together with dreams of finally accomplishing that ideal and sometimes our dreams turn against us and show us something that we would rather not see.
Someone that I care about had one of those, a dream that she would rather soon forget. An image that she would rather have erased. That image was someone that she held dear standing at a doorway, bright light around them, but his back turned. She couldn’t call him or reach out to touch him, she just had to watch. She realised in that dream, that person was dead. She just watched the person she held closest to her disappear.
Our dreams can get the better of us sometimes, worry can feed on them until we create our own nightmares. That is when we need to realise that our nightmares do not always come true. But dreams, dreams we can hold onto for as long as we can, feel the silky warmth keep us safe and keep us living for those extra precious moments that we will hold dear.
But remember, never let your nightmares hold you. And never try to erase those nightmares with a drink, alcohol can seem like a perfect solution to your problems at times, among other things. But what you could do overrules what you will do when you take up a bottle, and what you could do means nothing when you try your best.
So come face your demons, take up arms against your fears and stab at the darkness that tries to hold you down.
I’m here to fight with you.
Because you are all worth fighting for.
